AS Level

AS Level

The AS-level is a standalone, advanced qualification typically completed in one year following the IGCSE or SGCSE. It is designed to provide an intermediate step between general secondary curriculum and the specialized demands of a university degree.
At U-Tech, this phase marks a shift in the learner’s journey. Students move from a broad curriculum to focusing on four or five elective subjects that align with their specific career aspirations. This concentration allows for a deeper intellectual engagement with the material, fostering a level of expertise that goes far beyond standard high school certificates.
  • Breadth and Depth: Because it requires a one-year commitment per subject, learners  can take a wider variety of subjects (typically 4 or 5). This allows for a more “rounded” academic profile compared to narrower, more specialized paths.
  • Flexible Specialization: It allows students to focus on their strengths whether in  Sciences, mathematics or Commerce while still keeping their options open for various university faculties.
The Advantages of the AS-Level Pathway
Choosing the AS-level pathway at provides our students with a distinct competitive edge:
  • Superior APS Rankings: Most universities award higher Admission Point Scores (APS) for AS-level grades than for standard school-leaving certificates, increasing the  likelihood of placement in high-demand faculties like Medicine or Engineering.
  • University Readiness: The syllabus covers much of the foundational content encountered in the first year of a university degree, reducing the “first-year gap” and setting our alumni up for long-term success.
  • Maturity and Leadership: This phase encourages independent study and personal responsibility, ensuring our graduates leave U-Tech as disciplined young professionals.
